Kannan asked: How do animals survive in water that is frozen in winter?

- nikhil:- [ 12/3/2006 ] Animals have layers of fat called blubber, which acts an insulator as well as a mechanical shock absorber. This traps heat in the animal. Due to the anomalous expansion of water the bottom of a frozen lake or pond has a temperature of more than 2'c. This benefits the animals living in the pond or lake as the temperature never goes to the freezing point of water and animals are able to survive.
